Updated Release: DinnerNow.net 3.1 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 (Aug 16, 2009)

The DinnerNow.net 3.1 release focuses primarily on supporting new Microsoft operating systems and technologies. Specifically, it adds support for Windows 7 RTM and Windows Server 2008 R2 RTM as well as 64-bit support.

Prerequisites for DinnerNow 3.1

DinnerNow.net 3.1 requires the following software in order to run.

DinnerNow.net 3.1 has not been tested with the following versions of Windows and/or Visual Studio. However, since the complete source code for DinnerNow.net is available, you are more than welcome to try using DinnerNow.net with these and fix any issues that come up.

This version has been re-architected to simplify the code base and take advantage of new features provided by the .NET Framework 3.5 including:

- LINQ to SQL
- WF/WCF integration
- IIS7 & Windows Activation Services (WAS) hosting for WCF services
- WCF 3.5 Syndication Services
- WCF on the .NET Compact Framework 3.5

The DinnerNow 2.5 release has also been tested for compatible with Windows Vista, Windows Vista SP1, and Windows Server 2008 RTM.

There are several hands-on labs that demonstrate how to use the technologies demonstrated in the DinnerNow sample application. These hands-on labs have been released as part of the Visual Studio 2008 Training Kit available here.

The DinnerNow.net 2.0 release is an updated version of the DinnerNow orcas solution. This version has been developed for the Visual Studio 2008 & .NET Framework 3.5 beta 2 releases. Some of the new features and changes in the 2.0 version include:

- Revised WPF kiosk application that can be loaded in the Visual Studio designer for WPF
- Integration with the mobile application

The DinnerNow.net 1.3 release contains some significant enhancements and several bug fixes. Some of the new features in version 1.3 include: - New Service Portfolio. The "Service Portfolio" is the code that consists of the services, data access, workflow, and business logic for the scenario. It has been completely rewritten. - Unit tests for the entire service portfolio - Documentation for the service portfolio that was generated from the C# source code using SandCastle - New mobile device application that can connect to the host services and update orders - Support for the Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional SDK - Updated walkthrough document that includes information about the Windows Mobile components - Extended Verification (EV) cert for the DinnerNow.net site - Support for user specified installation paths. We have removed the requirement to install the sample at c:\DinnerNow Version 1.3 utilizes the .NET Framework 3.0 and it has been tested on both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 (Longhorn) Beta 3. In addition to version 1.3, we are also releasing a version of DinnerNow.net that has been developed againist Visual Studio "Orcas" and the .NET Framework 3.5 beta 1. This version takes advantage of new Orcas features including: - Language Integrated Query for .NET (LINQ) and LINQ-to-SQL - Workflow Services (codenamed "Silver") - WCF RSS services There are a few known issues with the 1.0 Orcas version. The DinnerNow.net 1.2 release contains several bug fixes and a few enhancements. Most of the bug fixes are related to the setup/configuration process.
